Chakravarti Maharaj Vikramsingh possessed a sacred Naag Mani, which was given to him by Patal’s Naag Raj Naag Nanda.

Care of this Naag Mani was entrusted to prince Veersingh on his 21st birthday, Madansingh, brother of the queen who had long cherished the hope of being thus honoured, was enraged and decided to get hold of Naag Mani by hook or crook. With the help of the Court Dancer Chanda he succeeded in getting a replica of the original key, but, his sister came in his way, and prevented him from opening the door. Veersingh showed up in the nick of time and a duel ensued. At this crucial moment when Madan was about to slay Veersingh, Maharani flung herself between the two and got killed by her brother’s sword. The dying queen asked Veersingh to pledge her he will never disclose that Madan had killed her, however cruel he be, he was her brother. Thus let away, Madan told Maharaj that Veersingh had slain his step-mother. Maharaj ordered Veersingh to be arrested and put in a dark cell. Madan conspired with Chanda to make Veersingh flee from the cell, which she successfully managed. Armed horsemen followed Veersingh with instruction from madan to kill in the out-skirts of the town. Veersingh fought gallantly, but received fatal wounds at the hands of his foes. Taking him to be dead they threw him in a nearby pond.

Next day a village belle Gujri spotted him, and with the help of her girl friends managed to carry him to her house, where he recovered withing a few days. He now lived in the village in guise of a shepherd. One day Veersingh saw two beautiful girls about to get into the pond, but, on seeing him they mysteriously disappeared. He was dumb—founded. Gujri brought his lunch. She thought he had gone mad, and those girls were only creatures of his imagination, but, Pujari Baba, an old respected man of the village, believed in such a possibility. He told that from Shivji’s temple every night some miscreant manages to steal flowers, even though the doors are firmly locked, and no human foot—prints are ever seen.

In a short time Veersingh succeeded in finding out the culprits. They were the same two mysterious girls. One of them was the daughter of Maharaj Naag Nanda of Patal. These flowers were being stolen by Naag Padmini to make ‘Rasayan’ to cure her father.
